From October 15, 2013 Antenna Hungária will launch a 6-months hybrid television (HbbTV) free-to-air test transmission – called MinDig TV Plus – on its digital terrestrial television (DVB-T) network. In this pilot phase new live streams will be available such as Fix TV and MTVA, Swiss Radio channels. The test service will contain rich EPG data, news, weather forecast information and webcam features.

HbbTV (Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV) is an international standard developed to provide interactive services for digital terrestrial television networks. It allows the viewers having TV sets with DVB-T (terrestrial) reception and internet access to complete the linear television and radio programs of MinDig TV service with various multimedia content through the internet network. HbbTV technology has been proven in several European countries (for example: Germany, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland) and there are many popular commercial services in operation.

The free-to-air hybrid television (HbbTV) test transmission of Antenna Hungária – called MinDig TV Plus – will extend MinDig TV and MinDig TV Extra services with new on-demand live streams, such as Fix TV and MTVA, Swiss Radio channels.

The test service contains rich EPG data, news, weather forecast information and webcam features. The content can be accessed very easily by pushing the red button on the remote control.

Antenna Hungária’s partner in the test transmission is the Finnish Sofia Digital, the supplier of 1.1 HbbTV system. Content contributors are MTVA, Fix TV, Swiss Radio and PORT Data.

At the moment, the Hungarian households have relatively limited number of HbbTV-enabled TV-sets. The half-year trial period, in addition to the technical test also serves that TV manufacturers could prepare themselves to activate the HbbTV function in the devices to be sold in Hungary. In addition, Antenna Hungária expects that more and more set-top-box manufacturer will begin marketing HbbTV-capable receivers, which will be able to receive MinDig TV and MinDig TV Extra programs and to display MinDig TV Plus hybrid TV services also.
