ConnectMedia, a new digital media service by Antenna Hungária

Antenna Hungária (AH) launched a new digital media service for businesses called ConnectMedia.

Antenna Hungária (AH) launched a new digital media service for businesses called ConnectMedia. As a first step, AH set up its high-capacity Content Delivery Network using the latest technology. During the testing phase, high resolution online streaming of Football European Championship and Olympic Games was a great success, with both viewers and industry experts welcoming the quality and stability of the service. Few weeks from now, MinDig TV mobile application by Antenna Hungária shall offer live streaming of 4 public service TV and 3 public service radio channels and euronews. Free to download, the application shall be available for Android, iOS, Windows Phone and Windows8 devices and offer subscription-free access to live programs.

Besides the traditional linear broadcast, the popularity of on-demand multi-screen audiovisual solutions has been rapidly rising in recent years. Responding to these trends, Antenna Hungária and its parent company TDF started developments that allow AH meeting the demands and needs of consumers in the new digital age.

The new digital media service for businesses by Antenna Hungária is called ConnectMedia. The official website of the new B2B brand is www.connectmedia.hu.

Latest technology, high-capacity network

As a first step, AH launched a 100 Gbit/sec Content Delivery Network (CDN) that enables the company to deliver excellent quality video and audio content, live, to any part of the world. The new technology can be used for a variety of purposes including, but not limited to, live audio broadcast, video broadcast, and video conferencing. It is ideal for services requiring high bandwidth, e.g. delivery of video content.

Streaming technology is used to transfer data over the Internet in a continuous stream. The service is provided by AH with high availability and security parameters; servers are located in data centers in Hungary, with direct link to the network of partner internet service providers and Budapest Internet Exchange (BiX). The latest technology and ideal geographical location guarantee the excellent quality of the content delivery service by AH across the Central-Eastern European region.

Up-to-date adaptive streaming technology allows users accessing their favorite content in the best possible quality, anytime, anywhere, on any device. Adaptive streaming is a process that adjusts the quality of a delivered video based on the internet connection bandwidth of the user to ensure the best possible viewer experience.

Thanks to our experienced experts and modern infrastructure, we can prepare and convert program signals to adequate formats for online broadcast (encoding, transcoding), efficiently protect all content via Digital Rights Management (DRM), and we are also capable of offering geographically restricted services. Regarding the pricing scheme we adapt to the commercial models of our customers, the service packages have been partly developed by taking account of not just pre-committed bandwidth and number of users’ limitations. This reduces market entry barriers for our clients; on the other hand more dynamically allows serving the expected growth in the users’ needs.

Continuously expanding orderbook, new applications

During the testing phase, online streaming of Football European Championship and high resolution and 3D streaming of the Olympic Games was a great success, with both viewers and industry experts welcoming the quality and stability of our service. During the 17 days of the Olympic Games, a total of 135,000 viewers watched our online broadcast, the most-watched event being the handball match between Hungary and Iceland with around 30,000 users, which required a 35 Gbps bandwidth.

Following the successful coverage of the Olympic Games, the cooperation between AH and MTVA now includes live online broadcast of Kossuth, Petőfi, Bartók and Dankó radio channels, minority and parliament programs, Duna World public service TV channel (www.dunaworld.hu), and the six-episode show called “A Dal” (The song).

In the near future additional commercial partners are expected to contract for ConnectMedia services.

Within a few weeks, MinDig TV mobile application by Antenna Hungária shall offer live streaming of 4 public service TV channels, 3 public service radio channels, and euronews new channel. The application shall be free to download and available for Android, iOS, Windows Phone and Windows8 OS devices. Access to live streaming programs shall be free of charge. Antenna Hungária shall prepare and manage the channels for the applet and stream the programs on its own network.
