The first phase of the analogue terrestrial television networks’ switch-off will take place next week, on July 31, 2013 12:30 PM at the central parts of the country. The digital MinDig TV service replacing the analogue transmission is available almost everywhere by an indoor or rooftop antenna and a set-top-box that is the affected people in the switchover shouldn’t have to wait until the analogue switch-off date. Antenna Hungária will launch the digital transmission on August 1 from six new low-power sites, and from the beginning of November MinDig TV will be available from further 19 sites.
Based on the decision of the National Media and Infocommunications Authority, the last stage of the digital switchover, that is the analogue terrestrial television networks’ switch-off will be carried out in two steps: in the first phase the analogue terrestrial television transmission will be discontinued in Budapest, Győr, Kab-hegy, Szeged and Szentes transmitter regions on the last day of July and is replaced by MinDig TV, the digital terrestrial television broadcasting.
The digital MinDig TV and MinDig TV Basic package are available almost everywhere – 98% population coverage – by an indoor or rooftop antenna and a set-top-box that is the affected people shouldn’t have to wait until the analogue switch-off date. The first phase of the analogue terrestrial television networks’ switch-off will take place on July 31, 2013 12:30 PM at the central parts of the country – North & Central Transdanubia, Budapest and Pest County, Southern Great Plain.
After the discontinuation of the analogue service, Antenna Hungária will launch the digital transmission on August 1 from six new low-power sites, thus the full range of MinDig TV and MinDig TV Extra services – 31 television channels altogether – will be available at the following settlements:
The digital transmission of the MinDig TV Extra Family package will be launched on August 5, 2013 from Szentes and Battonya sites; thereby the package offering additional 13 television channels will be receivable on the full territory of Csongrád, Békés and Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok counties and most of Bács-Kiskun county.
The second phase switch-off of the analogue terrestrial television networks will take place on October 31, 2013. After that Antenna Hungária will put into operation further 19 digital low-power transmitters mostly in North-Eastern Hungary by the beginning of November, resulting that the number of digital terrestrial sites will increase to 90.
Antenna Hungária expects that the vast majority of analogue service users will switch to the digital terrestrial services, resulting up to one million MinDig TV user households by end of the year. By reaching this target, AH may be the largest digital TV service provider in Hungary. Further significant developments can be expected after the second phase of the analogue switch-off scheduled to October 31, 2013, the Family package of MinDig TV Extra will be widely available, the program line-up can be expanded and new services can be integrated into the product portfolio. The company is fully prepared for the last stage of the digital switchover and is ready to contribute to the smooth analogue switch-off process.
